Python Dates and Times in Python (2014) Where on Earth do Timezones Make Sense? Timezone Strings

Timezone String Challenge

i dont get what the task is asking me to do

timezone.py
import datetime

import pytz

starter = pytz.utc.localize(datetime.datetime(2015, 10, 21, 23, 29))

1 Answer

I was able to figure it out after reading the following code in this stack overflow:

from datetime import datetime
import pytz
utc_time = datetime.utcnow()
tz = pytz.timezone('America/St_Johns')

utc_time =utc_time.replace(tzinfo=pytz.UTC) #replace method
st_john_time=utc_time.astimezone(tz)        #astimezone method
print(st_john_time)

First it is asking you to create a function named to_timezone with a timezone name as a parameter:

def to_timezone(tzname):

Next you are to convert starter to this timezone and return the result. Here you can use astimezone but it has a timezone as a parameter where you are currently passing in the just the name. You can get the timezone from the name by using pyzt.timezone(tzname).

If you want I can post my solution but I think you can get it from here.

Thank you this helped a lot
