Python Django REST Framework Security and Customization Validate Field

Validating age.

Alright, I'm running out of hairs to pull.

What's wrong with this validation?

scorekeeper/serializers.py
from rest_framework import serializers

from . import models

class GameSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
    class Meta:
        fields = ('id', 'name')
        model = models.Game

class PlayerSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
    class Meta:
        fields = ('id', 'name', 'age')
        model = models.Player

    def validate_age(self, value):
        if value >= 13:
            return value
        raise serializers.ValidationError('Player age must be over 13')

class ScoreSerializer(serializers.ModelSerializer):
    game = serializers.HyperlinkedRelatedField(
        read_only=True, view_name='apiv2:game-detail')
    player = serializers.HyperlinkedRelatedField(
        read_only=True, view_name='apiv2:player-detail')

    class Meta:
        fields = ('id', 'game', 'player', 'score')
        model = models.Score

there's nothing wrong with it as far as I know. Kevin's Python courses have been horrible at detecting the correct answers. I've gotten errors just because two lines of code were not on the same line. It's ridiculous
