You have to complete the code challenges and quiz's to earn badges. The videos teach you the skills needed to complete the code challenges and quiz's, although it's not required to watch the videos.

It's really up to you if you want to watch the videos. I tend to doze off sometimes when the teacher uses words that haven't been explained yet. It's not until you google it up and you find out later. Wait till you get to JavaScript, I was so overwelmed by the first lessons I actually gave up.

Hi Jordan, I stopped the course completely. I reckon it was more geared towards programmers who already knew a lot about programming in other languages. The course I took was 'JavaScript foundations' by Jim Hoskins. Jim knew his stuff and respect his work very much, but I feel it was too advanced for me at the time.

I haven't completely given up on JavaScript though, I managed to get the updated 'JavaScript Basics' by Dave McFarland. And that course is awesome and great for the absolute beginner like myself. Really good challenges and explanations. I hope that answers your question?

Watching videos may seem incredibly boring, particularly CSS Basics as it covers topics almost anyone who has ever done web design before will know. BUT, I always advice watching (or, at the very least, listening) to all videos as you may pick up on something which you didn't know before. Case and point: I just completed the How To Make A Website course, having already built a website, but some of the things covered in it helped me to majorly redesign my layout and my site is now ten times better off than it was before. You never know where the next bright idea may come from!
