231,198 PointsYou didn't provide a link to a video, but just from looking at the code it appears that the purpose for creating path is to test that no errors occur which would be caught by the exception handlers.
But I'd bet if you review the video where this is done, the instructor probably explains the purpose as he is writing the code.
It's also possible that if you're not already at the very end of the course, there is more code that will be added later which may make use of path.
