Design Design Thinking Understanding Your User’s β€œAs-Is” Scenario Identifying the Opportunity

Where do you get this information about the user at this point?

Are these assumptions? Or are you getting actual information from usability tests? It isn't clear where this info is coming from.

From my understanding there are ways to get this info e.g. through interviews and surveys.

But at this point we are working with an Archetype named "Stable Sarah" who fits a set of known characteristics e.g. family minded. We have not done Assumptions but we have employed Critical Thinking and brainstormed ideas using two tools - Empathy Map and Journey Map - as our guide.

I think this approach is smarter and faster than interviews, reviews and survey.

Yes, these are currently just assumptions. That is the quickest way to get started as user testing and/or interviews can be a lengthy process to complete. However, like Tonnie mentioned these assumptions were made with critical thinking using the tools mentioned (Empathy Map and Journey Map) to form your analysis. With that said assumptions are the best way to get started quickly but should be validated with real users as soon as possible. Assumptions can also be formed using data or feedback provided for similar or competitor solutions. (customer review sites, marketplaces reviews, etc.)
