where should i start?

Hello all,

I just finished the how to create a website and css basics tracks. I still feel stuck, like i do not know where to start. I get the concepts but i feel it is a big pill to swallow. How do i get started creating my own webpages. How do i get involved with real world scenarios to apply my skills? Should i offer up my time to help companies locally start with their front end web development?

Thanks, JC

Hi Joseph- try picking a website you like and code it from the ground up in Workspaces. Try picking something pretty basic at first. I just finished my first practice project and it definitely was a great learning experience. I tried taking a site for a school I work at and made it responsive. Though certainly not perfect, it got me practicing on a regular basis.

Good luck!

Hi Joseph, all you need to do is keep practicing the concepts you have learned & try creating webpages, no matter how many courses you take and whichever language you try to learn, you will feel this void ie. "where do I start". Consider these courses as alphabets and try creating new sentences. Hope this helps.:)

Thanks for your reply! I guess i currently i do not have a project or motive to work on a site. I wonder if front end development is for me.

After learning any topic on any programming language, you should always, always practice by making a game (if you are learning a language like Python) or building a website (using HTML/CSS).

:warning: It's very important to practice!

Once you feel like you've gotten the handle on HTML/CSS, you can dive deeper into HTML/CSS or learn JavaScript whcih are both highly recommended.

Dive into the stuff on the Front End Development track. That will help reinforce the learning and help teach new tricks.

What I recommend is what my wife keeps telling me I need to do, which is to create a portfolio page that shows my knowledge of these languages. Something like reviews of my favorite TV shows (with pictures included) or highlighting places I've traveled to. Right now I am on the Beginner JavaScript track and I already know that by not building something on the side I am shooting myself in the foot!

Thanks everyone for their replies and support! I guess i just want to start working in the related field. I do not have a motive to create a website. I want to pick up a small project just trying to figure out how i can pick up something like that.
