Why return cls(pattern)?

So, I completed the challenge with @classmethod, but why do we do return cls(pattern) at the end? I'm not entirely getting cls.

Calling "cls()" is the conventional way to create a new instance within a class method, and that was one of the objectives of this particular challenge.

Class methods that do other jobs might not need to reference "cls" at all.
